Things I do that make me a better wedding photographer that have nothing to do with photography.
Nature walks – consider the lilies of the field. Silence, the need to not feel the void with content or strategy or perspective, and just walk and enjoy what God created…to notice the small and simple things in nature. To wonder. This teaches me to be inspired by what already exists.

Laughing with my kids– Parenting is a lot of hard work. It’s against the grain for a kid to WANT to do homework and chores. And there are the emotions and the sibling fights, and I can feel like a constant servant, dressed as a referee, and feel overwhelmed with the question, am I doing enough? Delighting in my kids takes intentionality. Like changing a lens. Fighting for joy is always worth it. This teaches me to find the best in others and focus on the good.
Dinners with my grandparents– life is busy. There’s a never-ending to-do list, but slowing down to have dinner with my grandparents every week is a reminder that life is fleeting and the good things will be missed if we don’t intentionally savor them. This teaches me to create meaningful moments that matter.
Doing dishes– finding beauty in the mundane, and realizing the proof of provision and health is in the chore of dishes. This teaches me that work is a gift and proof of a well-lived life.
